English Corner is a Registered Student Organization at the University of Illinois. We give international students the most amazing American experiences. We host daily conversation groups, meet Thursday nights to reveal American culture, and take monthly trips for the American experience.

What is English Corner?

Welcome to English Corner! We are a student-run organization with members from countries all across the world. Our goal is to give international students an American experience — with real relationships and fun.

Who can attend English Corner?

Everyone is welcome! You do not have to be a student at the University of Illinois to be part of English Corner. We welcome people from anywhere across the world as well as native English speakers!

When are the weekly meetings?

We meet Thursday nights at 5:30 in the Illini Union (during the school year, fall through spring.) These weekly meetings highlight parts of American culture that helps international students and visitors gain a better understanding of American culture and make lasting friendships. Students get a chance to interact with English-speaking members, as well as other people from all kinds of different places. These events are engaging, informative, and most importantly, fun! If you are looking for a place to practice your English and learn about culture, this is the place for you!

Does English Corner offer small group events?

Yes! Conversation groups are fun small group discussions with up to 10 people. We provide a variety of conversation groups hosted by American leaders where you can build real friendships, practice your English, and have fun. They are held Monday through Saturday at various times. Click on the Join button to connect with a Conversation Group.

Does English Corner offer any additional events?

Each month we do an exciting event. Events include Corn Maze, Apple Orchard, Thanksgiving Dinner, dinner in American homes, American Cookouts, skydiving, six flags, trips to Chicago, and so much more! Sign up for our email newsletter and follow us on social media to learn more.

What is the cost to attend English Corner?

Most English Corner events are FREE! Some special events may have a charge, but you will be notified before you attend.

Where are the events held?

Our weekly events are located in the Illini Union. Watch your email for the latest information about what room we will be in!

What if I cannot attend all the events?

There is no weekly commitment to English Corner. You can come as you wish!
